Each Step that will embroider shows in a different colour thread, but in reality that is only for you to differentiate between all the steps. Personally I use the same colour thread for all the steps, which is also the colour thread that I chose for my mask’s final satin stitch. The only colour changes i did was for the actual picture on the mask, e.g. brown and black for the kitten. You can play around with your mask variations, for example , use the same colour thread as your fabric when you do the pattern over the mask, to give you an “embossed” effect or you can use a contrast colour to spice things up a bit for example using red thread on black fabric.
